The Swedish king's
private hunting area is to be found here among the plateau mountains Halleberg
and Hunneberg. If one is interested in wildlife,
it might be a good idea to join the elk safaris arranged by the tourist
information bureau in Vänersborg.

Mostly for the children, this old railway is still in use and are run
by steam engine trains. In Anten railway station there is an exhibition
hall showing old carriages and locomotives and information about the old
narrow-gauge railways.

This is the first Science Centre in western Sweden. The visitors can
do their own experiments and in a simple and educational way learn about
technique and natural science.

This mediaeval museum has several exhibitions about life and people
during the Middle Ages on permanent display. Smaller exhibitions on particular
subjects change from time to time.

Next to the fascinating flights of locks in Trollhättan,
the Canal museum gives the history and technical background to the canal
systems.

The Locks and Waterfall of Trollhättan

Several flights of locks, some of them twohundred years old, offers
the largest collection of locks in northern Europe. The locks built in
1916 are still in use. In the vicincy of the locks area you find beautiful
nature and the old Hell Falls waterfall, which have been dammed
to provide the region with power. The sluicegates of the dam are opened
on special occasions. It has become an annual festival; Fallens Dagar.
