Västergötland: Middle
A paradise for children is the enormous Skara adventure land. An amusements
park, a water park with water-chutes and beach volley courts, a motorpark with
Go-cart and Motocross and several restaurants and cafes. Outside the park there

Hedared's stave church (Hedareds stavkyrka) The only
preserved stave church in Sweden, probably built during the 16th century. The
interior, made of timber, dates from the early Middle Ages. The church is
situated along route 180 between Borås and
Alingsås. The chambered tumuli in Falköping (Gånggrifterna i
Falköping) In the middle of Falköping you can study ancient
graves from 5 000 years back in time. In the square in the mediaeval part of
the town, there is a map showing where to find the different findings. The

Turistråd The cloister in Gudhem was founded during the
12th century by the cistercienser order. It was once one of the wealthiest
nunneries in Sweden. The cloister was seriously damaged in a fire in 1529. Some
years later it was closed down. The cloister is located north of

The Runestone of Sparlösa (Sparlösastenen)

Turistråd This remarkable monument from 800 AD, tells us
stories about ancient times in two different runic alphabets as well as in
figure engravings. The stone is now conserved and kept in a building next to
Sparlösa cemetery. Vara Tourist Office.

Borås Wildlife park (Borås djurpark)

Turistråd For the enthusiastic ornithologist Hornborga
lake is a paradise. Especially in spring-time, when thousands of cranes dance
here. There is a tower for bird-watching and in the same area a nature museum
with exhibitions and information about the birds that can be seen.

Falbygden museum The museum has exhibitions about the
many ancient monuments, findings and a special emphasis on the Stone-Age

Skaraborg county museum (Skaraborgs länsmuseum) A
modern and interesting museum with permanent and occasional exhibitions. The
museum also offers the visitors experiments to do on their own in the workshop.
