All the inhabitants of Värmland would like to welcome you to our province. We often describe Värmland as the province of nature and culture. It is also a province of wilderness with unspoiled forests, distant blue mountains and shimmering wild waters for fishing and canoeing. And through it all runs the river Klarälven, The largest river in Sweden. The people of Värmland are known for being friendly and helpful. Hospitality and obliging manners are also typical characteristics for a person from Värmland. Come here and visit us and we will show you! Many leading personalities in the world of culture were born in Värmland. At Mårbacka, close to Sunne in the western parts of Värmland, Nobel prize winner Selma Lagerlöf lived most of her life. The estate is beautifully situated and the mansion has guided tours during the summer. Other cultural personalities such as the poet and writer Gustaf Fröding and the poet Erik Gustaf Geijer lived and worked in Värmland. Fröding's home, Alster, is situated outside Karlstad and Geijer was born in Ransäter. Both are open for tourists during the summer. We here in Värmland are also known for being a festive people. You are very welcome to visit the folk-musician get-together and the accordion-get-together in Ransäter during the summer. Ransäter is also well-known place to celebrate Midsummer with the play "Värmlänningarna" and many folk-musicians. We here in Värmland have prepared some rounds to make it easier for you as a tourist. There is a cultural round, an art round, a handicraft round and a mining and ironworks round. Just as beautiful as only something very natural can be.
