Events and Festivities in Värmland

There are many events going on in Värmland during the year, a lot more than those mentioned here. Contact the local tourist agency for more information.

The International Swedish Rally

In the beginning of February there is a large motorsport competition going on in the deep forests of Värmland. It is the International Swedish Rally with all the well-known rally drivers of the world. There is a party going on everywhere where the rally passes. From Branäs in the north to Karlstad in the south.

Folk Musician Festival

In Ransäter you can visit the Folk Musician Festival in the beginning of June. A lot of folk musicians gather together and play all night long. Among other things there is a great barn-dance one of the festival days.

Accordian Festival in Ransäter

This is the largest accordian of all the Nordic countries. Over 200 orchestras perform, there are two scenes with high-class entertainment. All of this takes place at Ransäter rural community centre during July.

Klarhälja and Älvdalssagan

In another rural community centre, Kärnåsen about 79 kilometres north of Karlstad, there is another open-air theatre and another play. This one is called Älvdalssagan and it is a saga about how it could be living in northern Värmland in the 19th century. This festivity during the special week is called Klarhälja. There are several craftsmen and women in the area this week and they are all showing some of the finest handicrafts from last century. Klarhälja takes place in July.

Viking week in Värmland

There is a story about how a Viking king, Olof Trätälja, went from Säffle to Solörike in Norway to find himself a bride. He went by boat all the way from Säffle to a small village outside Arvika, Sulvik. As a reminder of this Arvika and Säffle has decided to host a Viking week. There are many attractions and interesting things going on in both cities during the week. The Viking week takes place during July.

Gammelvala

In Brunskog outside Arvika you can visit Gammelvala in the end of July. There are several performings on the stage each day, over 40 kinds of handicraft is shown and you can eat specialities from the province in the small restaurants in the area.
