The ice Age left many interesting traces such as deep fjords and strange rock formations. To begin with, the province was covered with water but the landmass rose quickly and the province is therefore very young according to the geological way of timekeeping i.e. millenniums. The northern part of the province is dominated by fir trees, which give rich returns of the investments of the lumber industry. The animal life in this part of the province consists mostly of various species of birds and there are also deer and elk in prodigious numbers.

The landscape of this part of the province consists mainly of open plains interspersed with a few hills. The forests are dominated by fir trees with occasional collections of deciduous trees.

The archipelago offers rich recreational opportunities such as snorkelling, canoeing, fishing, scuba-diving and various other exciting activities. Every kind of fish you can think of is up for you to catch if you are good at handling a fishing rod. Uppland has an extremely rich flora and fauna. The animal life has many diverse representatives such as elk and beaver, there are also lots of splendid surprises for those of you who have an ornithological interest.
