Welcome to Småland, one of Sweden's most diversified provinces - the province of forests and lakes, of stony patches of tilled ground, of red coloured lingonberry tufts, the province of beautiful timbered houses and wooden churches and of fairy-tales and legends, Nature in this part of Sweden has almost everything. Miles of murmuring forests where you can walk over the soft green moss and collect mushrooms or berries for hours without seeing another human being. Yet you will find elk, roe deer and grouse. Here there are roughly 5 000 lakes and just as many islands. We have the ocean, the coast, the lovely coastal islands and plenty of untouched wilderness.

During The Viking Age, iron was produced in the swampy and lake-rich Småland. From the middle of the 19th century the wood industry and glassworks replaced the iron industry. Within a radius of just a few dozen miles in the counties of Kalmar and Kronoberg, you will find some of the most famous glassworks in the world - The Kingdom of Crystal. You can easily visit several of them in the course of just one single day. And the attractions that they offer are not only exciting and informative - they are free of charge as well.

Characteristic of Småland is also the classic Småland cottage, painted red and trimmed neatly in white - set in a natural landscape of birdsong and beauty.

But above all else, what we inhabitants of Småland have to offer is ourselves; children's author Astrid Lindgren, North Pole adventurer Andrée, taxanomist Carl von Linné among others.
