Sights and Attractions in Småland: Nature/Animals
The nature in Småland has almost everything. Miles of forests where
you can walk over the soft green moss and collect mushrooms or berries
for hours without seeing another human being. Yet you will find elk, roe
deer and grouse. Lakes for fishing. Lovely little lakes with fine beaches
where you can enjoy the sun and go for a swim all by yourself if you wish.
There are also rivers and streams. You will find small red cottages in
the meadows and forest glades, surrounded by stone walls, laboriously collected
and built up by industrious farmers and crofters who once worked the rocky
soil.
More Valley is the only "canyon" in Kalmar County. The ravine
is about 7 km long. More Citadel is an uneroded so-called relic platform
that rises to a height of 20 m where the ravine is steepest.

Powerful and mysterious Taberg raises over the forests in Småland .
"Ett Smålands mirakel" (A mirakel of Småland) exclaimed Carl
Von Linné already in the year 1741 when he saw the hill and the kind of
rock that does not exist in any other place in the world. There are many
nice walks and the view is beautiful. You can also go on expedition in
the long drifts from the time of the ironworks.
About 20 kilometres south of Västervik you have one of Småland's most
exciting areas. Here are for example several miles of old poled fences.
The village was bought in the 1960s by an academy and has since then been
restored to be a copy of an old Smålandish village with grazing animals,
scythes, axes and ploughs. The village is declared as a historical area
and is one of the highlights on the 160 kilometre-long Ostkustleden (east-coast
hiking-route).
Outside Eksjö you can find one of Småland's best known sights. The Skurugata
nature reserve. A paradise for everyone who enjoys nature. Skurugata is
Småland's stone cellar with high vertical walls of stone. The top is called
Skuruhatt, 338 m above sea level, almost as high as Taberg - Småland's
highest outlook.
Outside Värnamo you will find Småland's second national park, Stora
Mosse. It is well-known for its bird-life.You can take wonderful walks
through the bogs and even overnight in small huts.
