Carl von LinnéThe natural scientist Carl von Linné was born in 1707 in Råshult, Småland. He went to school in Växjö and later on he went to university in Uppsala. Thanks to a little script about the plants' sexual life, he started working in the botanical garden there. He travelled a lot in the province and brought home different collections. ´ In the province of Dalarna he met his wife, Sara Elisabeth Moraea, daughter of the provincial doctor in Falun. 1735-1738 Linné went to the Netherlands where he got his medical degree.. He also visited England and France. In 1741 he received a professorship in Uppsala. The botanical garden was soon to be the greatest in the world. Linné had many enthusiastic pupils which he sent all over the world to bring collections home to Uppsala. In the year 1735 "Systema Naturae" was published. It is a classification of the plant, animal and mineral kingdom. He published several biological scripts. It was a great achievement when Linné introduced the today used nomenclature system with two names, the generic name and the species epitaph, for every plant and animal species. Linné's son followed his professorship and after the son's death the collections, library and manuscripts were sold to the Englishman J.E. Smith.
