Youth HostelsSTF Hostels in Skåne Youth Hostels are found in all major cities. The Svenska Turistföreningen (Swedish Tourist Association) usually gives a 30% discount to members.
RestaurantsSkåne is filled with countryside inns, the so called gästgivaregårdar (old hostelries). You will find various restaurants in historical castles as well as in more traditional houses. One example of a historical surrounding is the Oscars Trapp in Helsingborg with excellent food in the old keep KärnanTypical Skåne food is the Swedish smorgasbord which originates from Skåne but has become the most well-known Swedish food internationally. Spettekaka is a traditional Skåne sweet cake, made of hundreds of eggs and is not found in other parts of Sweden. There is also a very special goose feast in autumn time called Mårten Gås. The food is a three course dinner which begins with a svartsoppa (black-giblet soup) made of the blood of the geese and it tastes a bit like a ginger cake soup and is followed by the roasted goose, potatoes and brusselsprouts. The meal ends with a traditional apple cake with vanilla sauce. Another very traditional feast is the ålagille (eel feast) where you are served various dishes of eel.
