Major Cities in Skåne


There are a number of large cities in Skåne:

Malmö

Malmö, the largest city in Skåne and the third in Sweden, has a population of 250 000. It is located on the west-coast and straight across the Öresund is Copenhagen visible. Malmö has a great deal of festivities, museums and big events. It also has a great deal of good shopping. Many Danes come across the Sound to shop in the coastal city.

Helsingborg

Helsingborg is the second largest city in Skåne. The population is 110 000 and is growing due to the popularity of the city. The Danes also visit the city as it only takes 20 minutes with the ferry to cross the Sound. Helsingborg celebrated its 900th anniversary in 1985.

Lund

Lund is the university city in the area with a population of 90 000. It is a city filled with students mixed with an amazing historical touch. Lunds Domkyrka, built in the 11th century, together with Kulturen are probably the biggest attractions in the whole province.

Ängelholm

Ängelholm, was founded in 1516 by the danish king Christian II. Ängelholm is called "the ocarina city" and since the middle of the 19th century ocarinas are made here.
Ängelholm is in historical view "the potter city". Already during the 17th century here was pot makers in action.
Carl von Linné, the great swedish botanist, certified during his excursion in Skåne that Ängelholm is a beautiful city with an environment of great natural beauty.

Kristianstad

Kristianstad, the most Danish city in Skåne. It was founded in 1614 by Christian IV. You can spot Christian the IV's monogram C IV everywhere in Kristianstad. The city is also very famous for its film museum, Kristianstad is actually the cradle of Swedish film industry.
