Welcome to Medelpad and Ångermanland. These two provinces are said to be the pearls of Sweden. Here you find forest-covered hills rising out of the sea. Because of this, the coast is named the "High coast". In the summer, the nights are light and the province offers excellent opportunities for hiking and canoeing. The inland is covered with virgin pine forest. This part is called the kingdom of timber. As the painter Pelle Molin said, "This land was made by God when he were smiling and being furious in the same time."

Medelpad means the middle road in old Swedish. This was in medieval times the pilgrimage path to the shrine of Olof the Holy in Trondheime. The delta of the mighty river Indalsälven is here. The provinces main city is also located here, Sundsvall with a population of 100 000. Further to the north is the "High coast" were tree-covered hills rise out of the sea. The hills (300 meters high) make a beautiful sight. This part of the province is called Ångermanland, which comes from the Norwegian word "anger", which means a deep bay. The visitor who comes here is recommended to visit the picturesque fishing village on Ulvön outside Örnsköldsvik. The museum on Murberget in Härnösand has the biggest collection of old wooden farm houses outside of Stockholm. In Häggvik, the artist Anders Åberg has collected different things and created a number of museums. Everything from trams to art. If you are interested in finding your Swedish roots there is a genealogy centre in Ramsele with all information taken from the Swedish church archives and conveniently collected on CD-ROM.

Anyone interested in nature should visit the national park, Skuleskogen which offers a dramatic and genuine scenery.
