Hiking in Lappland, Norrbotten and VästerbottenHiking is possible everywhere in the northern provinces. The best time of the year for hiking is from July to September. By this time there is less water to wade over which makes for easier hiking as well as fewer mosquitoes. Please do not forget, proper attire is necessary here where the weather can change dramatically. Good sturdy walking boots and rubbershoes for wading, rain-clothes and the best mosquito repellent money can buy! There will be no problem in finding good hiking-trails. The most wellknown and perhaps the most popular trail is "Kungsleden", the King's trail. It goes in a south-north direction through the mountain chain. You can hike parts of it but there are several other trails which will take you deep into the wilderness. While most well-traveled trails are marked, it is always important to have proper equipment and a good map of the area and a compass. Do not forget to leave a message; where and when you go on a walking-tour. If you want to fish when hiking you must obtain a fishing permission. If you have done all that, you will experience all the silence and tranquillity of a magnificent landscape and see for mile upon mile of new wonders of the nature.
