The rock carvings in Gärde
People have lived around Storsjön since about 3 000 B.C. The rock carvings
in Gärde tell us about the hunters and trappers who used magic and ceremonial
rites to bring them good luck in hunting.
The Runestone
The Runestone with its 1 000 years old inscriptions, stands right in
front of the bridge from Östersund to Frösön on the Frösö side.
Jamtli Museum
The first in and outdoor museum in Sweden. Visit Historyland, with very
authentic 18th and 19th century surroundings. Inside the museum, which
is partly built below the surface of the ground, you can see one of Sweden's
most peculiar exhibitions with Lappish mountains and wolves' lairs for
the children. Among the many fascinating objects, you will find the big
trap which was used in the early 19th century, in an attempt to catch the
great lake monster.
