Söderhamn

The earliest findings in Söderhamn are dated back to the Iron Age, although the city was not founded until 1620 when the industry of arms became important. The city is located on the east coast of the province and there is a beautiful archipelago with about 500 islands and skerries. The entire coast is named after the largest island and is called Jungfrukusten (Virgincoast).

There used to be fishing villages on many of the islands but nowadays Skärså is the only one still having an active fishing industry. Söderhamn is also a green oasis with extensive parks, flower gardens and other vegetation. 98 different plants are to be found in various settings around the town. Another place worth visiting is the distinctive Oscarsborg, whose palatial watchtower has became a nationally famous symbol for the town. Here you will find an outstanding view from the top.

Besides the things mentioned above, Söderhamn has something for every taste: sea trips, bathing, game-fishing, historical sites, relaxation, sports and amusements.

Hudiksvall is the second oldest town in northern Sweden and was founded in 1582. The town is a commercial centre with an interesting cultural history as well and there are many fine old buildings in the area to study. The district of Hudiksvall includes a large archipelago, smaller population centres as well as agricultural areas.

Sundskanalen is a characteristic feature of the town. The canal links Lillfjärden with the sea and is bordered on both sides by red painted warehouses of two or three storeys.

One of the most famous happenings in the town is the market known as "Hälsinge marknad" (Hälsinge market), which attracts thousands of visitors every September.

Other things that might be of interest, for those who are visiting Hudiksvall, are all the walking trails and footpaths, bathing places, sea fishing, lake fishing and several kinds of winter sports.

Bollnäs

Bollnäs (Swedish only) is situated on the confluence of the rivers Voxnan and Ljusnan in a rural area of long cultural traditions.

The scenery of the valley and of the river Ljusnan is beautiful, whether you enjoy it from one of the mountain tops or at close quarters. The municipality of Bollnäs has about 28 000 inhabitants, including the villages of Arbrå, Kilafors and Rengsjö.

In Bollnäs you will find, among other things, the Käller's Confectionery Museum. In the year 1919, Olof Käller started manufacturing peppermint sweets in a small cottage and ever since then, Käller's has been making high-quality sweets.
