Skottorp Castle

The castle is situated south of Laholm and dates back to the 17th century, The present building was built in the beginning of the 19th century. Today it is perhaps the impressive Empire style furnishings and the beautiful English park which you remember most. Guided tours are conducted during the summer.

Societetshuset

Symbol of Varberg and the spa life. Societetshuset is situated in "Societets parken" near the fortress and offers a wonderful scenery. Built in 1883. The architecture has obvious Moorish influences as well as other exotic additions. It has been converted into an art gallery and restaurant.

In the summer there are concerts held in the park during the evenings.

Halmstads Castle

The castle is a beautiful building dating from the 17th century. Theatrical perfomances and concerts take place in the summer in the inner courtyard. The castle is now the residence of the governor of the county and is therefore not open to the public.

Axtornastenen

Raised in remembrance of the battle of Axtorna, which was fought on Axtorna heath in 1565. The battle stood between Sweden and Denmark and the Danish were victorious.

Varbergs Castle and Fort

Dates from the 13th century. The old fort has a varied and thrilling past and was at the beginning of the 17th century one of the most modern fortifications in Europe. "Kockenburg", the strange, winding passage for transport in the "Grå Munken" bastion has its counterpart in the "Rundetarn" in Copenhagen. There is now both a museum and a youth hostel in the fort and the courtyard is often used for concerts of various kinds in the summer.

Bexells talande stenar

15 km east of Varberg there is a large forest. The landowner Alfred Bexell had 150 sayings and quotes from world literature carved into rocks in the forest. He did this in order to preserve the Swedish language, which he thought was in danger of dying out.

Alebo Pensionat

The Alebo spa has been well known since the 18th century. The drinking from the well increased in the 19th century and continued until approximately 1930. The present spa-hotel was built in 1898. The well is still there and hotel guests can still enjoy a glass of the strenghthening unpolluted water.

Tjolöholms slott

Tjolöholms castle is a sight worth seeing. It was built around the turn of the century. English Tudor style, magnificent Jugend furnishings, beautiful garden etc. It is one of Hallands greatest tourist attractions.

Li burial field

Large field of monoliths situated on Fjärås Bräcka with over a hundred raised stones. The largest and most famous stone is the 4.75 metre high "Frodestenen". The field also contains a lot of grave mounds from the Iron Age.

Eckerslunds burial field

Iron-age burial field with a grave mounds that were typical of the period. There is a beautiful view from the ridgeline that runs across the field. Eckerslund is the site of the world renowned "Jättahögen".

Carl XI´s fortifications

Situated on Viskan and south of Veddige church and opposite Kullagården's mansion house are the remains of fortifications. Built in 1676. After the victorious battle at Halmstad, the Swedish army was stationed there for a month. The army was at that time under the command of Carl XI.
