Edskens Blast Furnace
This particular blast furnace was of great importance in the development
of the iron industry in the region. The first successful Bessemer process
was accomplished here in 1858, making way for the iron works of Sandviken.
A copy of the furnace from 1858, together with the remains of the original
one, makes this place worth a visit.
Gamla Gefle
The old parts of Gävle were saved from the flames in the great town
fire 1869. In the cobbled alleys you can find, amongst other things, the
home of Joe Hill, Gunnar Cyrén's glass exhibition and silver workshop,
artist's studios etc.
Gysinge Iron Mill
The iron mill in Gysinge was founded over 300 years ago. During the
following decades they only produced munitions to the Crown but as time
passed, the mill expanded and during the 19th century it was one of the
largest in Sweden. The bar iron from Gysinge was famous all over Europe.
In the year 1900, world history was written in the small community when
the engineer F.A. Kjelling managed to produce steel with the help of electricity.
This revolutionary method was used in Gysinge until the shutdown of the
mill in 1926.
If you visit Gysinge today, you can combine a visit to this splendid
cultural heritage with great fishing and good food at the Gysinge Wärdshus.
