These denominations allude to the division of Sweden which is made in Gästrikland. You will find a typically northern nature in the western and north-western parts of the region. Here the hills and the wide forests are spread out and the many lakes and rivers. In the eastern and southern parts of Gästrikland you will find the fertile fields and imposing boulder ridges so typical for southern Sweden. The southern parts of the coast are similar to the archipelago of Stockholm with its small islands. Geologically dominant is the moraine and the mountains in the western part of Gästrikland. The region are full of iron ore, the wealth of Gästrikland.
