Bäckefors ( road 172/166, south-east of Ed )
The surroundings of Bäckefors is the geographic centre of
Dalsland and the area is also one of the oldest industrial communities in the
province. The main industry during the 19th and early 20th century was the iron

The Church of Gesäter (Gesäters kyrka)
(road 172, 15 km south-south-west of Ed)
Medieval art is
quite uncommon in Dalsland but the one piece there is, is very interesting. In
the Church of Gesäter one can see the Gesäter Madonna, an 80 cm tall
wooden work of art. It is dated as far back as to the 13th century.
During the centuries it has been quite badly treated, for some time it
was even used as chopping-block. In Gäserud there is also one of the
oldest profane buildings in Dalsland, the Gäserud cabin from the 17th
century.
