Events and Festivities in Bohuslän

Church concerts

Throughout the summer in Strömstad. Various nationally known artists perform in the extraordinary acoustics. There are church concerts in other towns too but the Strömstad ones are especially renowned.

Träbåtsfestival (Wooden Boat Festival)

At Mossholmen on the Tjörn Island, last Sat-Sun in June. Song, music and dancing, children's activities, christenings of new wooden boats etc.

The Fjord Festival

Downtown Uddevalla. River-race with small Viking ships, Viking rowing, live artists, beer tents, amusement park attractions, etc.

Bassholmens Dag

Bassholmen. The large gathering day for old wooden boats still in use, as well as an exhibition at the museum.Festivities. Transport by boats from Uddevalla, Lysekil and Göteborg. Please call the tourist office on 0522-51 17 87.

The Lysekil Festival & Carnival

Lysekil. The festival is the start of the most action-packed weekend of the summer in Lysekil. There are floats, outdoor concerts with nationally well-known performers, beer tents and about 50 000 people arrive to celebrate all weekend long. The Sotenäs tradjazz Festival

Kungshamn and Smögen. Lots of musicians playing happy jazz, mainly in Kungshamn. There are several jazz festivals in Bohuslän during the summer, but if you plan on visiting one only, this is the one.

Hornbore Ting Viking play

The castle in Hamburgsund. Viking plays and a whole Viking village with lots of activities, not to forget the life-size Viking ship at the jetty. For information call the tourist office on 0525-204 00

Tjörn Runt (Around the Tjörn island yacht race)

August, start in Stenungssund, finish at the Skåpesund bridge (joining the islands Tjörn and Orust). The world's largest inshore yacht race, with about 1 000 participating yachts every year. There are some good vantage spots along the race course. Please contact the tourist office for further details, phone 0303-833 27.
