The northern part is mainly covered with forests and marked with significantly north-south running valleys. The river valleys create a distinctive character in the landscape and the great fern is very common in this area. The wildeness in the northern part is excellent for hiking, berry and mushroom-picking and biking. The whole region provides opportunities for fishing in the many rivers and lakes. Salmon fishing is famous and attracts tourists from all over the world. In the south, the terrain changes into a flat coastal lansdscape. The shores are shallow and the forest is mainly hardwood with oak, birch and beech. This area with its meadows, often surrounded by hawthorn, is a haven for anyone who wants to experience the singing of the nightingale during the spring. Blekinge has an abundance of flowers and this enviroment also offers a numerous exemple of animal life. Moose, deer and other common Swedish animals can be found in the region.
